Thank you,but I do NOT understand how you can rescue anybody using a Cobra helicopter. They are stricktly attack helicopters, and only have a pilot and co-pilot,lined up one behind the other. The rest of it is filled with cannons, machine guns, and munitions. AFAIK,there is no passenger compartment in a Cobra.
The ONLY thing I can think of would be if he hovered close to the ground and the people he rescued ran up to the helicopter and tied themselves to the skids
What LIKELY happened is his close air-support suppressed the enemy fire as well as troop advancement, allowing a "Slick/Gunship" to come in,land, and pull them out.
Doing so in a Cobra is MUCH more dangerous that in a slick because Cobra's are basically flying machine guns that are REALLY good at flying fast and smoking everything in sight, but not so good at hovering above ground. They were build for speed and dispensing death in massive numbers, not hovering.
There HAS to be more to this story than we are being told, and this is taking NOTHING away from the Captain. Hell,it would probably add to his glory if the whole story were known.
