All Rainwater is Unsafe to Drink According to Study
By: Chloe Dionisio

A study by Stockholm University and ETH Zurich scientists found that all rainwater on Earth is unsafe to drink due to the levels of PFAS, or toxic chemicals. These PFAS or ‘forever chemicals’ are becoming a part of a future reality that humans must, unfortunately, learn to live with.

August 15, 2022

Forever chemicals or PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are aptly named due to their extremely slow disintegration. PFAS were first found in shampoo, packaging, and even makeup but have begun to spread into our earth. A professor at Stockholm University and lead author of the study, Ian Cousins noted, “There is nowhere on Earth where the rain would be safe to drink, according to the measurements that we have taken.”

Using their study’s data, Cousins and his team illustrated that chemical levels in rainwater from remote areas are unsafe and above the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) drinking water guidelines. Within this study, they took rainwater samples from extremely remote areas like Antarctica or the Tibetan plateau. Although these areas are originally known as being remote and untouched, their PFAS levels are around 14 times higher than the US EPA guidelines.

PFAS has been associated with a range of serious health issues including cancer, childhood behavioral and learning problems, complications with infertility and pregnancy, immune system issues, and high cholesterol. Cousins continued by saying, “Based on the latest U.S. guidelines for PFOA in drinking water, rainwater everywhere would be judged unsafe to drink. Although in the industrial world we don’t often drink rainwater, many people around the world expect it to be safe to drink and it supplies many of our drinking water sources.”

Yeah... That's bullcrap.

I know many people who live off grid with rainwater collection systems - That means the rain off the house roof, the barn roof, and etc, all goes down to a collection cistern to be pumped up to main cisterns - usually 5000-10000 gallons...

All of them have their water checked from time to time - Full test by the county - and no one has any problem with potability. None.

But these bastards are the same ones that are scaring you out  of anything natural - I know people back east that are astonished that I would eat meat not approved by USDA... That I would eat fish out of streams... that I would drink milk out of a cow, eggs out of a free range chicken, or fruit off a tree.

...And in the mean time, all y'all drink dead water, stinking of chlorine and full of fluoride and other chemicals that are 'safe'...

It would be comical if it weren't so grim.

Nope. I don't touch the stuff. I drink Spring water; mostly Fiji. Well water around here tastes pretty wicked even with a filter.  City water tastes like yuck with a lot of chlorine.

I spent a lot of my career before retirement dealing with water quality issues.

My first question to the ETH scientist.  Since PFAS is a surfactant, how does a mixture that partions as a film upon evaporation, and with a specific gravity of 1.4 - 1.8, somehow vaporize into atmosphere, clouds, rain?

Secondly, and instead , I'd  like to focus on your sampling protocols....  Like were there any leaching or losses in sampling containers or sampling devices.

I am not saying PFAS is not a problem.  It can be via groundwater contamination or surface water streams, but creating scares like this is the same junk science shit, the climate alarmist are becoming famous for.

From a bottle? Sorry, but if it ain't growing algae in the bottle, it's still dead. Set my spring water on a sunny kitchen sill in a sealed quart jar and in a day it will be turning green...

And that's a good thing.

I understood none of that except the surfactant part... and 'junk science shit' ...which I am pretty proud of, knowing such a technical term.

I have had giardia ... I am pretty immune now. I don't drink from still water as a matter of course (especially if beavers are around)... But I drank creek water and river water all the time.

Think about it... every critter but you can handle water from nature... Why can't you? Because you aren't exposed. Hillbillies get their water piped right from creeks, They drink natural water all the time. Like me, they drink from running water with plenty of tracks around to show other critters drinking it too... And they boil water from still sources...

But I ain't ever seen a hillbilly catch beaver fever. They just don't.

RE:  Rainwater.  I'd be leery of drinking water than has run off a barn roof covered in bird chit.

The first flush from the roof is not put in the cistern with that in mind. there is a determination what amount of flush is needed to clean the roof before the water is taken - Usually a pre-determined gallon-rate (depending upon the size of the roof) is collected before overflowing into the cistern.  The 'first flush' is then emptied into non-potable systems (like garden) or just emptied on the ground.

Either way, getting a little more wildlife in your water will strengthen your immune system... Probably why rural folks are far less effected by covid, among other things.
