In Alaska primary, Murkowski and Palin show the deepening fissures in the Republican Party

The almost continual daylight in Alaska this month is revealing more than the state's sweeping mountains and shorelines. It's also showing the deep fissures in the Republican Party.

Two candidates on the ballot for two different offices – Sen. Lisa Murkowski and former Gov. Sarah Palin – represent a growing divide in the GOP that is largely decided by a candidate's allegiance to former President Donald Trump. Murkowski is fighting off a Trump challenger. Palin is fighting as a Trump challenger.

Murkowski is a moderate Republican who has crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats on some big issues. In February 2021, she was one of seven Senate Republicans to vote in favor of convicting Trump during his second impeachment, drawing ire from the former president and others in her party. She is the only one of the seven on the ballot this year.

Palin, once John McCain's running mate in 2008, leans to the far right. She has been in lock step with Trump and joined him and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell last month at a "Save America" rally in Anchorage. After the FBI search last week of the former president's Florida residence, she called the country's top law enforcement agencies "dangerous thugs."

Murkowski is running for her fourth full Senate term. Palin is running for her first House term. Other than both vying for seats in the U.S. Capitol, they couldn't be further apart, analysts said................

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I wouldn't vote for Murkowski because she is a DCP RINO. She is far left of a moderate republicant. Palin is a whack job and a quitter. I don't live in Alaska so all I can do is hope the people of Alaska make the right decision for them. Neither one of those candidates represent the interest of the citizens of Alaska.

The Alaska Senate primary is weird.  All candidates run together in one race.  The top four candidates make it onto the November ballot.  So it is highly likely that both Murkowski and Kelly Tshibaka make it onto the November ballot.  This could favor the Democrats with a ballot having two Republicans but only one Democrat.

CANDIDATE Q&A: U.S. Senate — Kelly Tshibaka

Not sure about the House race.  They've already had a 'top-four-candidate' primary for that open seat, and the 'general' election for filling it will be at the same time as the Senate primary election.  On the ballot are two Republicans, one Independent, and one Democrat.  The Democrat came in fourth in the 'top-four-candidate' election.  Sarah Palin is the favorite.  She outpolled Nick Begich 27% to 19% in the 'top four' race.  Don't know what happens in November for that race since the seat will be up again.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."
