Sinema signs off on Manchin-Schumer spending bill

by Kate Scanlon, Congressional Reporter
August 04, 2022 09:34 PM

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) offered her support Thursday to a deal struck by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on a healthcare, tax, and climate spending bill, with a change she had sought, giving the reconciliation bill a path forward in the evenly divided upper chamber.

Manchin announced last week the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a scaled-back version of the Build Back Better Act, that had the support of the rest of the Democrats in the Senate.

Democrats are seeking to pass the bill using a process called reconciliation, not bound by the 60-vote filibuster, and can do so unilaterally with their slim majority in the 50-50 chamber due to Vice President Kamala Harris's tiebreaking vote.

But all eyes were on Sinema because that method required her support.

There was never any doubt in my mind that this would happen.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

So you have zero faith that Republicans will use the tools they have available to block this.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

It was rhetorical.

Everyone should have known that something like this would have eventually been passed - the democrats were hellbent on getting something through - but at least it wasn't the original $3 Trillion proposal.

One is more likely to survive being stabbed twice than being stabbed 4 times, particularly if the last 2 would have been into vital organs.

IMO zero faith in the GOP, and Mitch has already made his deal with Chuckie.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

First amendment I would propose:

Before this act can take effect, each member voting in favor must read out loud on the Senate floor the entire text of Atlas Shrugged as written here:  .  .  .

This should get us half way through September at the very least.  Three more amendments like that, and there will be a new Congress.  The bill will be dead.

Think about that.  Just four Republican Senators could stop this.

Trouble is, they won't.  Don't have the guts to stand up to the Murder Turtle.
