Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said in an interview on Thursday that he was “ostracized” and “victimized” after he poured cold water late last year on Democrats’ efforts to pass their major climate and social spending bill, the Build Back Better Act.

In a radio interview with West Virginia’s “Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval,” the centrist Democrat called the legislation “a bad bill for our economy,” comments that come a day after he reached a deal with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on climate, taxes and health.

Manchin said he believed this deal, which is anticipated to be a part of a budget reconciliation package, should not draw concern from Republicans and touted several ways it would generate revenue, including through a corporate minimum tax of 15 percent.

“I knew no matter what we do, if we could do some good now and have an energy policy that worked and do all this too without raising taxes, truly not raising taxes and not adding to inflation, and I’m gonna walk away from that because I think it’s going to harm me politically?” Manchin said. “Then, I’m the wrong person to be where I’m at.”

This latest bill is a disaster for everyone, including his constituents.  I have little confidence he will hold the line on filibusters.

In 2010, West Virginia was still mostly dem.  His last two elections have coincided with banner years for national dems: 2012, 2018. 
2024 may be different, if a halfway decent candidate is recruited.

He's likeable and he's convinced West Virginians he's one of them and he cares about them. Look at me with my shotgun! Look at me in my WVU football uniform!

Even though WV has become a redder state in the last 10 years, the last GOP challenger lacked the charisma and long  history of Joe in WV politics. It was our very excellent AG, who is short and pudgy, has a high-pitched voice and constantly has to battle allegations of being a carpetbagger.

The Manchin family has been entrenched in WV politics for decades, and Joe is the Manchin who's gone the farthest (he even thought he'd be Hillary's running mate in 2008). Yes, his wife is a drunk and his daughter is the hideous former head of Mylan Pharmaceuticals, who was handed an MBA from WVU without ever attending a class, and who so drastically raised the price of Epi-Pens a few years ago. Despite the negatives, he's still ol' Joe - and it's sickening that people keep reelecting him.

He isn't there to schmooze with everyone, he is there to represent his State.

Either that or Schumer found some dirt and threatened him with it...
