Lawyers for Twitter accused Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk of trying to “sabotage” its $44 million agreement to buy the social media company on Tuesday in the first hearing of a lawsuit seeking to close the billionaire to force the deal.

Musk and Twitter’s legal teams met in court Tuesday to debate how quickly the case will get to court. Twitter’s lawyers are seeking an expedited trial and want a four-day trial to take place in September. Musk’s lawyers argue that there is no need to rush and want the trial to take place in February 2023.

Twitter’s lead attorney William Savitt has slammed Musk and strongly opposed a delay, CNN reports. He said the ongoing uncertainty about the deal and this lawsuit “harms Twitter every day, hour, and day.” He also accused Musk of violating his agreement by disparaging Twitter on his own platform.

“Musk was and is contractually obligated to do his best to close this deal,” Savitt said. “What he’s doing is just the opposite, it’s sabotage.”

Less than three months after Twitter Inc. announced that it had accepted Musk’s offer to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share, the billionaire businessman attempted to go out of business. On July 8, Musk’s attorney, Mike Ringler, claimed in a letter that Twitter had failed in its contractual obligation to provide information that would allow Musk to estimate how many fake or spam accounts are on the platform.

Seems to me that the case is in Twitter's hands.  All they have to do is disclose accurate data on the number of bot accounts.  Instead, they're essentially arguing that Musk should be forced to buy a bill of goods, a pig in a poke, whatever metaphor one cares for.
