White House: To help salmon, dams may need to be removed

By NICHOLAS K. GERANIOS, Associated Press - Yesterday 10:38 AM

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Biden administration on Tuesday released two reports arguing that removing dams on the lower Snake River may be needed to restore salmon runs to sustainable levels in the Pacific Northwest, and that replacing the energy created by the dams is possible but will cost $11 billion to $19 billion.

“Business as usual will not restore salmon,” said Brenda Mallory, chair of the council. “The Columbia River system is the lifeblood of the Pacific Northwest.”

If the four Snake River dams were ultimately removed, it would be largest such project in U.S. history. In 2012 the Elwha Dam on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula was removed to restore habitat. At the time, the National Park Service said the elimination of the Elwha Dam was the largest such project in U.S. history.

Idiocy. The dam is not the problem.

If the dam is at full pool, an overflow could be constructed to form a natural bypass - So long as the dam remains at  full pool during fish runs, , or comes to full pool once a week or so to allow for gathered fish to migrate, there is no fault or foul - And the single most stable power source known to man can remain perfectly in production.

Have your cake and eat it too - Or be an idiot and tear down dams.

Oh, and BTW... The primary purpose of dams is not power generation. It is flood control. Take out those dams and many, many small towns will be devastated sooner or later...

And need you look to the Columbia's delta? What town sprawls across its lowlands? Portland. Most of which will become uninhabitable within years. Including suburbs.

There's what the deductions of environmental scientists will get you.
