100-year-old WWII vet breaks down, says this isn't the ‘country we fought for’: ‘I am so upset’
Carl Spurlin Dekel served in the U.S. Marines during World War II
By Anders Hagstrom | Fox News

Much of what American soldiers fought for in World War II has "gone down the drain," according to U.S. Marine Carl Spurlin Dekel, who celebrated his 100th birthday last week.

Dekel says serving his country in WWII was the most important thing he ever did, according to Fox 13. The veteran and Silver Star holder says he wouldn't hesitate to put his life on the line again, but regrets that the U.S. has slipped away from what he remembers.

"People don’t realize what they have," Dekel told the outlet. "The things we did and the things we fought for and the boys that died for it, it’s all gone down the drain."

"We haven’t got the country we had when I was raised, not at all," he says. "Nobody will have the fun I had. Nobody will have the opportunity I had. It’s just not the same and that’s not what our boys, that’s not what they died for."

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

It's the truth. The freedom we had in the 1960s that I remember is largely gone, chewed away one promulgated regulation at a time, one law, one ruling, 'till there isn't much left.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Breaks my heart. I wonder how many would have volunteered to fight if they'd know what would become of their countries?

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
The founders, who are under fire by what I consider traitors, knew exactly what they were doing.  The thought that went into our Constitution is what has enabled it to survive as long as it has.  And mindless idiots, almost all stinking f***ing lawyers, have set out to destroy the meaning of that great document.

No, this country is not the country it once was.  It wasn't the country for a WWII vet, nor someone that grew up in the 50s/60s.  People today know little to nothing about this country.  They know virtually zero history, and little to nothing about what makes this nation great.  40% of those under 45 want our country turning socialist, with zero comprehension of the history of countries that have gone that route.

I do not see this nation surviving this century intact.  When virtually every pro athlete snubs our national anthem, you know something is seriously wrong.
