With the very first selfie of our MP42 satellite, we wanted to highlight the vulnerability of our planet's ecosystems and the importance of Earth observation by satellites, especially for monitoring the environment and climate change.

For that reason, we planned the deployment of the selfie stick above the Great Barrier Reef - the only living organism visible from space with the naked eye. MP42's ADCS rotated the satellite around its nadir-pointing axis at a specific rate to keep the Great Barrier Reef and Australia in the frame throughout our planned 10-minute imaging sequence that captured videos and pictures.

To learn why we chose a consumer-grade camera for the task, as well as the importance of Earth observation using satellites, read our full press release: https://nanoavionics.com/news/nanoavionics-records-first-ever-4k-resolution-full-satellite-selfie-in-space/
