Uvalde school board declines to punish police chief who failed to confront Robb Elementary gunman
The school shooting took the lives of 19 children, 2 teachers
By Julia Musto | Fox News

At the first meeting of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) board since the deadly mass shooting, members took no action against school police chief Pete Arredondo.

The meeting – which opened with prayer – was called in response to the May 24 attack by a lone gunman at Robb Elementary school that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

Although the agenda allowed the board to terminate Arredondo, in a part of a meeting that was behind closed doors, they declined to do so, according to The Texas Tribune.

During the first part of the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Hal Harrell said that his heart goes out to the families of the victims and called the slain teachers "heroes."

He also told attendees – including parents – that children would never return to the Texas school.

A mother, who was one of just two residents who addressed the board, said her seven-year-old son is "deathly afraid" of going to school.

Harrell said that while he is eager for investigations to come to completion, there was no additional information to provide on the matter.

A 9-year-old girl was released from a Texas hospital after being injured during the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on May 24.

University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, made the announcement on Saturday, tweeting that the 9-year-old girl has been discharged from the hospital.

A 10-year-old girl remains in serious condition, and a 66-year-old woman, who is believed to be the shooter's grandmother, is in good condition.

Yes.  The story getting more confusing by the day is a "tell" that we are being lied to on a grand scale.
To me it is reminiscent of the 2020 election when counting stopped simultaneously in several places, water pipes were bursting(an outright lie), vote totals suddenly switch live on tv screens with the entire country watching, etc.

A colossal coverup there while the stories were getting aligned, and we never were told the truth.

Also what happened on Jan 6 as we are denied videos of surveillance cameras.

We are getting a rotten, stinking coverup once again.

And in no case are the perps who either did the dirty work or those covering it up are going to jail.  Hell, some are not even being interviewed.

Similar inconsistencies in other such events have given rise to "conspiracy theories" that have a fairly broad range, from Las Vegas to Sandy Hook, there are more questions than solid answers. This seems typical of shootings (or other events) the Left uses to attack the RKBA.

Gunmaker Daniel Defense Hit With First Post-Uvalde Legal Action
By Becca Lower | Jun 04, 2022 4:15 PM ET

In the wake of the tragic massacre in Uvalde, Texas, in May that took the lives of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School, it was probably inevitable that people would seek to lay blame for the shooting through the legal system. And just over a week later, that process has begun, according to NPR.

Quote
A speech pathology clerk who hid during the May 24, 2022 massacre at Robb Elementary has started court proceedings against Savannah, Georgia-based gunmaker Daniel Defense.

It is the first reported legal action taken as a result of the mass shooting, which killed 21 children [sic] and two adults. While not a full-blown lawsuit, the filing seeks to determine if the gun manufacturer can be sued for how it promotes firearms.

“They’re marketing to people who it’s not reasonable should have guns … and we think that may be young people,” said attorney Don Flanary.

As RedState previously reported, the week of the NRA national convention, which was being held in Houston, TX, gun manufacturer Daniel Defense was taking flak after word got out that the company had made one of the AR-style rifles sold to the Uvalde shooter. That vicious attack by NBC News was a blatant, joint assault effort of media and gun control activists, something which I’ll expand on in another piece.

One intriguing excerpt from NPR’s story, which readers might find contains quite a coincidence, shows that this isn’t the only shooting the Robb Elementary clerk is looking to get Daniel Defense on the record about:

The Uvalde school board did not punish the district police chief who refused to send cops into Robb Elementary School while a gunman was shooting kids dead.

During its first board meeting since the May 24 shooting, the Uvalde Independent School District (UCISD) declined to fire school police chief Pete Arredondo on Friday.

Superintendent Hal Harrell told meeting attendees he was 'eager' for the several investigations launched into law enforcement's response to the shooting to 'run their course,' The Texas Tribune reported.

Harrell's remark implied the school could still take disciplinary action against Arredondo, who has been considered a cowardice 'man in hiding,' pending the results of the investigations.

Maybe the parents should take action and fire the school board and then the police chief and any others that as cowards cost more children's lives. If I lost my child because of this ass the least thing I would do would be bringing shame to him and the other officers every day until they finally packed up and left.

Uvalde School Officials Announce Elementary Campus Will Not Reopen in Wake of Shooting

Penny Starr 5 Jun 2022

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board announced at its first meeting since 19 children and two teachers were killed by an 18-year-old gunman that the school where the tragedy took place will not reopen.

Robb Elementary School was the site of an attack that killed 19 fourth graders and two teachers on May 24.

CNN and the New York Post reported on the meeting, while the investigation into what took place is still underway:

Quote
Superintendent Hal Harrell told parents at the meeting that students would not be returning to the school — but then shut down the meeting and went into a long closed-door session without ever addressing the district’s police chief Pete Arredondo, who made the fateful decision to not breach the classroom door where gunman Salvador Ramos was holed up with two classrooms full of kids.

    …

Arredondo, who was elected to a seat on the city council earlier this year, was secretly sworn into office last week after a council meeting was canceled.

Some parents who attended the meeting expressed anger that the school officials did not address the many questions they have about the police response to the attack, including claims that the officers waited more than an hour to take down the shooter.

Teacher wounded in Uvalde shooting says he will never forgive police
Brittany Shammas - 4h ago

A teacher wounded in last month’s mass shooting at a Texas elementary school said he will never forgive law enforcement for waiting more than an hour to stop the gunman who killed 19 students and two teachers.

Arnulfo Reyes, hospitalized after being shot twice during the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School, spoke of his anger toward police during an emotional interview that aired Tuesday. He described feeling abandoned by officers who stood in a hallway even as students begged for help in repeated calls to 911.

“After everything, I get more angry, because you have a bulletproof vest. I had nothing! I had nothing,” a crying Reyes said in a segment broadcast on “Good Morning America.” “You’re supposed to protect and serve. There is no excuse for their actions.”

The police response to the Uvalde shooting has faced mounting scrutiny and criticism amid revelations about the officers’ delay and other missteps. A timeline laid out by state officials revealed that officers retreated when the gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, shot at them. A phalanx of police waited more than an hour for backup before a group led by federal Border Patrol agents breached the classroom where Ramos was holed up with students he had shot.

The school’s police chief, Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, who was acting as incident commander, made the call that the officers on scene should wait. His order ran against protocols developed since the 1999 Columbine school shooting, which call for police to confront shooters as soon as possible, and was described by Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven C. McCraw as “the wrong decision. Period.”

Families of Uvalde shooting victims sue gunman for $100M
by Brad Dress - 06/07/22 8:21 PM ET

Four families whose children were injured during a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, are suing the estate of the gunman responsible for more than $100 million.

The families filed the lawsuit in the 38th Judicial District Court in Uvalde, seeking compensation for physical and emotional damages stemming from the shooting, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit seeks compensation in excess of $100 million from the estate of Salvador Ramos, whom law enforcement officials shot and killed after he opened fire inside Robb Elementary School on May 24, killing 19 children and two adults.

He also injured 17 additional children and adults during the shooting. The law firm of Thomas J. Henry is representing four of the families whose children were injured in the shooting.

Henry is probing several areas of the shooting, including the purchase of weapons Ramos used, how he entered the school and the law enforcement’s response to the shooting.

“This initial lawsuit will allow us to discover evidence and possibly add other parties to the lawsuit, if necessary,” Henry said in a press release. “The discovery process will focus on the school system, law enforcement, social media, and gun and ammunition manufacturers.”

Ramos bought two AR-15-style rifles, including the DDM4 V7 rifle he used in the shooting, from Oasis Outback just days after he turned 18. Daniel Defense, the manufacturers of the DDM4 V7, have come under scrutiny for marketing to children.

Ramos entered Robb Elementary through a back door. While a teacher was initially criticized for not closing the door, it was later revealed that the door did not lock properly.

The law enforcement response to the shooting has also been criticized after it was revealed police waited outside the school for more than an hour while the gunman rampaged inside. Police on scene said they believed it was a barricaded-shooter situation.

The four children in the lawsuit were injured by gunfire in several areas, including in the shoulder, leg, face and back, according to the complaint. They had to undergo extensive medical operations.

The complaint says Ramos “intentionally injured these young children, stole their innocence, and forever changed their lives.”

“They witnessed their friends and teachers being shot and dying in front of them. They were locked into the room with Ramos as he shot their friends and were forced to stay there for over 45 minutes, hurt and frightened before police finally entered the room and shot and killed Ramos,” the complaint reads. “The emotional toll they endured is incomprehensible and will be with them for the remainder of their lives.”

Henry previously represented the victims of a 2017 mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, and won a more than $200 million settlement from the lawsuit.

After Uvalde joined Newton, Conn., Parkland, Fla., and Columbine, Colo., in suffering from a mass shooting at a school, Henry said the lawsuit was a step toward “ensuring our children go to school and come home safe.”

“We want to obtain justice for the families that have been devastated by this shooting and ensure we have swift changes that protect our children while they are at school,” the lawyer added in a statement.

Rather than sue the gunman's family (doubtful there is much there, and likely far short of the 100 million) or even the police who commanded the scene and thwarted rather than effected rescue, how about suing the Congressional Representatives who voted for the Federal Fun Free Schools law? They did this, ultimately, they made it difficult or impossible for teachers to defend their charges, and had the schools advertise that they were defenseless.

I still believe that having signs that say "Warning! Our faculty and staff are armed and will use lethal force against anyone who tries to harm our staff or students" would be a far more effective option, especially if the faculty and staff are trained and armed.

Maybe some day we could get back to having school competition shooting teams...

Uvalde school police chief says he didn’t think he was officer in charge during shooting
by Sarakshi Rai - 06/10/22 11:46 AM ET

Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo said in an interview on Thursday that he did not consider himself to be the on-scene incident commander during the shooting at Robb Elementary School.

In an interview with the Texas Tribune — his first since 19 students and two teachers were killed in the shooting — Arredondo said he did not give any commands that police should not attempt to breach the building.

“I didn’t issue any orders,” Arredondo said. “I called for assistance and asked for an extraction tool to open the door.”

Texas Department of Public Safety officials, however, have said that Arredondo made the “wrong decision” to wait to confront the gunman, contradicting his claims.

Police have since come under intense criticism for waiting to engage the shooter and enter the classroom where he barricaded himself.

Officials have also changed the timeline of events from the incident multiple times in the following weeks, contributing to mounting anger.

“From the benefit of hindsight where I’m sitting now, of course it was not the right decision,” Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety said. “It was the wrong decision. Period. There’s no excuse for that.”

Arredondo, who is at the center of the controversy, said that he knowingly left his radio behind when he arrived at the shooting. Experts have said that a communications breakdown complicated the police response to the shooting.

The Texas Tribune report added that Arredondo believed that the radios would slow him down at a time in which he believed he was the first officer at the scene to respond.

The police chief was also oblivious to the 911 calls and the ongoing response via officials and agencies at the site as a result of his lack of radio equipment.

Arredondo told the Tribune that he tried to open the door using keys and later used his cellphone to call for tactical gear, a sniper and keys to get inside the classroom from the hallway of the school.
