Gas prices reach record high

The average price of gas in the U.S. rose to a new record high on Tuesday of $4.37 a gallon, according to AAA.

The record high represents a 17-cent spike since last week, and comes just two months after prices climbed in March to the previous high of $4.33 per gallon. The spike also comes despite efforts from the Biden administration to reduce pain at the pump, including calling on oil and gas producers to ramp up production and ordering the release of millions of barrels of oil from the U.S. emergency stockpile.

The administration said in March it would release 180 million barrels of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the largest-ever single release from the reserves since their creation in 1974.

Russia's war in Ukraine and an increase in demand nationwide have contributed to the increase in fuel prices.

Is this the time of year when refineries let gasoline stocks to run down as they switch from Winter gas to Summer gas?

Filled the truck up here in East Texas at $4.03.  I too left a Bidet sticker.

Really hard to get a hose down the filler tube now so thieves just puncture the tank.

Not yet.
I reckon the new "normal" will be $7-8 (maybe more) by summer, due to peak driving/demand.

Diesel? $10 easily. IF you can still get it.

For some time in this forum, I've been advocating that the USA "close" its petroleum markets, insofar as exporting is concerned.

No export of crude (I doubt there's any now?).
No export of refined petroleum products.

Drill here, extract here, refine here, SELL here.
Here and here, ONLY.

I predict at sometime in the near future we'll see a bill in Congress to this effect.

Just as we should CLOSE our borders TO immigration, it's time to also close them for petroleum exports. We need that stuff here.

We have had a lot of that in my area...they puncture the gas tank and drain it...it usually costs about $2000 to replace...we keep our car in the garage now.
