 U.S. job openings rise to record 11.5 million — and job quitting also hits all-time high

The numbers: U.S. job openings climbed to a record 11.55 in March -- and the number of people quitting also hit an all-time high -- in another sign of a historically tight labor market.

The number of people who quit jobs in March rose to 4.54 million, the Labor Department said Tuesday.

Quits topped 4 million last summer for the first time ever. And it's now happened 10 months in a row, part of a pandemic-era trend that's become known as "The Great Resignation."

Before the pandemic, the number of people quitting jobs averaged fewer than 3 million a month. Most who quit are finding new jobs.

There's almost two open jobs for every unemployed person, though companies never try to fill all of them. The number of openings is largely viewed as a way to assess the strength of the labor market.

Taken together, this is a perfect time to shrink the welfare state.

Yeah,and those jobs are open because the people that did have them managed to get fired so they could pull in more money while staying home.

Fast Food restaurants are now paying experienced FF workers up to $14.00 an  hour to start,and even at that,the local Hardees has been forced to shut down their lobbies and only sell out of the drive-up window because it seems like most new workers are only working long enough to qualify for unemployment.

@DB

To ME,the biggest mystery to all this is why NOBODY is talking about what effect this economic inflation has on retired people on a fixed income.

I don't remember seeing the first story about someone losing their house or getting kicked out of their apartment and becoming homeless because their house payment or rent is now more than their retirement/SS check.

People like me whose homes have been paid for for years can make out ok most of the time,but people with mortgages or rent payments are screwed.

Actually,so are people who own their homes in some of the big cities,where they are raising their property evaluation and tax values in order to fatter up the city coffers to pay for all the illegals the Dims are moving in.

Getting fired is not resigning.
Working for the WOKE, complying with their every absurdity or getting fired because you violated WOKE rules would be worse than giving up on the "dream" and downsizing to fit the gig based workforce.
I believe there is more to this than "free money"
