7.3 magnitude earthquake strikes northern Japan

The United States Geological Survey is tracking a 7.3 magnitude earthquake that has hit off the coast of Japan, triggering a tsunami warning. March 16, 2022

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake rocked Japan Wednesday evening off the coast of the Fukushima prefecture north of Tokyo, triggering a tsunami warning.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida warned residents to prepare for a possible tsunami and told reporters the government was assessing the extent of damage from the quake.

“Please first take action to save your life,” Kishida tweeted.
