Reimagining Pennsylvania Avenue in DC: How it could soon change

WASHINGTON (7News — City planners are hoping to transform the mile-long stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and the U.S. Capitol-- with your input. The goal is to make the area a pedestrian-friendly place and civic destination.

Pennsylvania Avenue is one of Washington's-and the world's-most recognized streets. But the National Capital Planning Commission says this area of downtown Washington, with its aging infrastructure, empty office buildings, and few pedestrians no longer has the characteristics of a thriving retail street.
The commission wants to change that.

Planners have come up with three different ideas, that would allow for civic events, concerts and festivals, and enhanced daily use of the avenue. One proposal would entirely close off the avenue to car traffic while allowing buses and bicyclists to use the road. The other two would restrict car traffic for special events, and make other changes to improve pedestrian accessibility.

Well, just imagine what it might look like if the idiots in charge let the Iranians park a freighter offshore and launch IRBMs with their newly developed warheads....

..and realize there are other things that should be getting more attention than making jobs for a bunch of exterior designers.

(A mile of pedestrian footpaths in a high crime city where you aren't allowed to defend yourself?)

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
