Thanks to the Biden administration’s skillful navigation of diplomatic channels and the shared sense of danger among European NATO members, Russia is incurring extensive damage to its economy and global standing.
Meanwhile, Moscow’s military forces are proving to be far less capable than imagined by Western intelligence, repeatedly suffering setbacks at the hands of worse-equipped Ukrainian fighters.
But given the history of the region, Putin’s biggest blunder is that he has managed to clear the path for Germany’s return to its traditional status as Central Europe’s dominant military power.
