North Dakota Rep. Becker Launches Primary Challenge Against Sen. Hoeven

Zachary Stieber  |  February 7, 2022

Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) will face a primary challenge in the upcoming elections after running unopposed in 2016.

North Dakota Rep. Rick Becker, 57, said in the video announcing his bid that he’s a conservative Republican who has helped pass laws protecting unborn babies, lowering taxes, and reforming the criminal justice system.

Without mentioning his opponent, Becker said he is “an outspoken critic of do-nothing politicians in the legislature and the Republican Party, especially over the runaway spending during the last decade both in North Dakota and in Washington.”

The nation needs “principled conservatives who will do what’s right, regardless of whether it’s politically safe” in Washington, he added.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-
