A straphanger was assaulted and robbed on a subway platform in Manhattan on Sunday morning, police said.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on the northbound platform of the No. 1 train at the West 145th Street/Broadway Station in Hamilton Heights.

Two men and a woman walked up to the victim, and one of them punched the person in the face, cops said.

The robbers took a cell phone and $20 from the rider before they fled to the street.

If we're going to bring back the crime of the 1970's, then perhaps we ought to bring back Bernie Goetz to represent the response of the '80s.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

If NYC doesn't get a handle on crime soon - via the techniques Giuliani proved worked - a latter-day Goetz will arise, sooner or later.

It'll be more than one person this time.

It will take "a Goetz moment"... or perhaps another "Central Park wilding/rape"... before things can change for the better in NYC.

Perhaps even that won't be "enough" this time.

It might take one or more "Paul Kerseys", acting alone or perhaps even in groups.
