The deceased got out of the vehicle, gun in hand, and advanced toward the homeowner.

At the point the deceased raised his firearm toward the homeowner, the homeowner was justified in taking the shot.

Without knowing any prior interaction(s), if any between the two, it looks like a 'good' shoot.
