Much of the deficit spending was driven by public takings.  His CDC issued absurd guidelines which fed into the COVID panic.  Trump himself attacked Georgia's governor for reopening the state, rather than placing every business at the mercy of the SBA.  You could say Trump recognized his mistake as the election neared, but he never should have reacted like a Democrat in the early weeks.

I also fault Trump for NOT invoking the Insurrection Act to stamp out the Democrat riots in 2020.  As far as spending goes, it would have appeared as a blip next to the CARES Act.  Coupled with shutdowns, the loss of security has thrown many cities into an economic spiral.  Conservatives are not able to hide from the problems in the cities.  Leftists in high office make you bail them out, and I have little confidence the refugees from NYC will change their voting habits once they register elsewhere.

This was the first pandemic in over a 100 years.  The previous two administrations were provide  strong contingency plans to address pandemic concerns, as I even was on one of the industry task forces to address (H1N5 planning).  DHS had this, and somehow criminally did not bring the plans or information to the Trump administration for execution.  Like I said, this was a once in a century event, and Trump for good or bad was responding to the emergency with no prior playbook to respond from.  This would be like a POTUS responding to a alien invasion.

The ending of this plot has not come to fruition yet, but at that exact moment in time Trump would have suffered politically if had done that.  We still may have an idelological civil war at some point, but I for one hope it happens when the left does not have such a MSM ginned  edge in public opinion.  This is not a hit on Trump, on those circumstances.
