Biden Bans Unvaxed Truckers From US, Exacerbating Supply Chain Carnage

The Biden White House is requiring all non-U.S. citizens – including Mexican and Canadian truck drivers – to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to enter the country via all land ports of entry and ferry terminals. The move is certain to exacerbate existing supply chain issues in the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the new policy on January 22nd:

“The Department of Homeland Security will require that non-U.S. individuals entering the United States via land ports of entry or ferry terminals along our Northern and Southern borders be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be prepared to show related proof of vaccination,” explained Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

“These new restrictions will apply to non-U.S. individuals who are traveling for both essential and non-essential reasons. They will not apply to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or U.S. nationals,” outlined the DHS.

The DHS details how all “non-U.S. individuals traveling to the United States via land ports of entry or ferry terminals, whether for essential or non-essential reasons, must”  be able to do the following:

*verbally attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status;
*provide proof of a CDC-approved COVID-19 vaccination, as outlined on the CDC website;
*present a valid Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant document, such as a valid passport, Trusted Traveler Program card, or Enhanced Tribal Card; and,
*be prepared to present any other relevant documents requested by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer during a border inspection.

The decision comes amidst America’s grocery stores facing unprecedented shortages and bare shelves, a problem which could be exacerbated by the policy given its relevance to truck drivers attempting to enter the U.S. via the Mexican or Canadian border.

The Supreme Court hasn't overturned any of the mandates on the merits; so far, they've only been dealing with preliminary injunctions against the mandates.

Since this involves border matters, the federal government's mandate in this regard will almost certainly be allowed to continue until and unless Congress explicitly knocks it down, given that, as the Court has held previously, the federal government's full power is at its acme when it comes to the border.

BOSTON — A truck crash in the O'Neill Tunnel caused major backups on Interstate 93 south Thursday morning.

The truck that crashed was carrying a container from Canada to Rhode Island, according to the owner of the trucking company, Snap Truck. The owner also apologized for the incident and said it was not intentional. The containers they typically carry are 20-feet-long, the owner said, and they are looking into whether a taller container could have been loaded.
