The problem with Islam is not that Muslims do not want peace, but that they have a defective concept of peace.
In Semitic languages (like Arabic) the consonants are the root of the word: Salam (peace) and Islam (submission) have the same root. In the Muslim mind the only peace is the peace between conqueror and conquered, between master and slave, because peace and submission are inextricably bound up in the Muslim consciousness.
There are not long-term peace treaties with non-Muslims in Islamic law, only hudna, cease-fires that can be abrogated by the Muslims whenever it seems advantageous (which abrogation is seen by Islam as virtuous, rather than treacherous). In Islam, there is no analogue of the peace of God which passes all understanding experienced by those who have received adoption as sons of God, only slave-like submission to the will of Allah, which gives one a sort of peace -- never having to think for yourself, and the fatalism summed up in everything being premised with "Inshallah" (If God wills).
