Majority in new poll condemns Jan. 6 attack, says Trump at least partially to blame
By Caroline Vakil - 01/02/22 10:01 AM EST

A majority of Americans condemns the Jan. 6 riot and believes that former President Trump bears at least some portion of responsibility for that violent attack on the Capitol.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll found 72 percent of Americans say that the people involved in the riot were mostly threatening democracy while 25 percent of those said they were mostly protecting democracy.

The poll also found that 58 percent of people surveyed said that Trump bore a great deal or good amount of responsibility for the Capitol riot, compared to 41 percent who said he bore no or just some responsibility.

A majority of Americans also said they believed that Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election victory was legitimate, with 65 percent of Americans agreeing. Still, one third - 33 percent - say that they think Biden’s victory was not legitimate nearly one year after he was inaugurated.

The topline findings started to diverge along partisan lines, ABC reported. For example, 45 percent of Republicans believed that the people involved in the attack on the Capitol were threatening democracy as opposed to 52 percent who felt they were protecting democracy.

In comparison, 96 percent of Democrats believed those involved in the attack were threatening democracy, ABC reported.

The new poll comes just before the one-year anniversary of the riot in which Trump supporters ransacked the Capitol to contest the election and tried to stop Congress from certifying Biden's victory.

The ABC/Ipsos poll was conducted between Dec. 27 and Dec. 29, 2021, interviewing 982 adults. The margin of error is at plus or minus 3.5 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level.

I believe this poll to be accurate. Conservatives especially should condemn those that rioted at the Capitol

My position is those folks broke the law and should pay. But, you charge them and let the criminal justice system deal with them.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I don't think Trump is doing himself any favors by holding a press conference on jan 6, but I could be wrong.

As long as the MSM and the DEMS are pushing the narrative that Trump is to blame for Jan.6, more people will begin to believe their b.s.  The DEMS are notorious for feeding lies until their lies are actually believed and seen as the truth.

President Donald J. Trump was in no way responsible.  However the DEMS are, as well as a some members of the GOPe; it was a planned attack on their part in order to steal an election and gain control.  Who in the heck in their right mind would vote for Biden?

Secondly, members on this board saw voting number miraculously 'change' in order to prevent DJT getting elected again.

Personally, I'm hoping and praying at this point for a complete overwhelming takeover of the House and Senate by the GOP and that they kick some booty, welcoming either DJT as president for a second term or seating a conservative president.

Yes, those that rioted at the Capitol should be held responsible; but keep in mind that it WAS a planned insurrection by the DEMS.

Well, hopefully it will be a productive presser on his part. My bet is that there will be more people tuned into his press conference then those hoping to nail him to the cross and watching some other briefing.

Rioted?

I want equal justice under the law.

Minneapolis, Portland, and Seattle, are waay behind the curve.

I also want  full disclosure of FBI and other Federal pre-riot activities, including the diminuition of security (Pelosi and DC police), the refusal for National Guard security pre-event, any infiltration, incitement, encouragement, and participation by agents provocateur in the riots, as well as a full accounting of folks like Ray Epps' activities in re the events of Jan 5th and 6th, as well as others who were involved, initially listed as 'wanted' and then dropped from that roster.

There is a boatload more to this than the media are reporting, so if we're going to have answers, let's peel this open and really look at it.

My opinion was pretty close to yours right after the event.  Then after a year, watching Carlson's expose' on this matter and government involvement,  and how specifically these people have had their basic rights expunged?

You might want to re-think.

I too thought that Trump had a hand in instigating this $hit but I got over my NTism and realized it was the FBI that painted this picture and pelousy and her committee are covering up this, just like the Maxwell trail.

Exactly.  Like Tucker Carlson basically said, any footage, transcripts, or documented events during that day in the Capital are state guarded secrets of extreme national security.  Why would that be?

This whole thing stinks of a ruse.  And I feel really sorry for the dupes who were suckered into this mess, and now have basically lost 100% of the civil rights.

So if Trump "followers" have no independent thought and act on his "say so" without regard to the right and wrong of it, then who is responsible for telling blm/antifa to urn down our cities?
Waters?  Biden?  Pelosi?
Holding someone responsible for the actions of others is political retribution, not the rule of law...

That's the whole rub of this hypocricy.  Trump was very specifically quoted prior to the intrusion, to "March Peacefully"....  And somehow he is complicit in this matter.

While in 2020, the likes of Waters and Kamel-uh were bascically donning pom-pom's rooting the BLM and Antifa terrorist on.

And the government is so puzzled that there is a crediblity disconnect between the population and its government.  **nononono*

I agree. I also believe that Pence needs to be investigated. What did he know before the insurrection took place?  I believe both he and Pelosi had knowledge beforehand of the insurrection.
