I always thought that was a quote from the USMC's "Chesty" Puller during WW-2,when the Japanese had them surrounded.

I did, too, but I googled it, and it came up attributed to Abrams at the relief of Bastogne.(That doesn't mean Chesty didn't say it, too.)
