@Kamaji

PLEASE tell me you are kidding!

Although that DOES go a long ways towards explaining why so many children of the elites are morons.

I seriously doubt many blue collar kids got these as gifts. I grew up in the 50's and never even heard of one,never mind knew anybody that had one.

Which is probably a good thing because back then I like making things explode and was a HUGE fan of buying chemicals from the drug store to mix together.

My mother put an end to this when I blew up the sidewalk in front of our house and they had to pay to have a new one installed.

So ended my experimental days at the public library and the drug store.

Had to wait until I got in the army to blow stuff up again,but for some reason my enthusiasm seemed to scare people,so they wouldn't let me mess with demo and made me a weapons and radio guy instead.

NOBODY messes with a SF demo man.
:silly:

I never was in the Army, and avoided working with oilfield explosives, just because...

I feel ya, bro....

The government was pretty blase about the risks from uranium back then.  Obviously, the concentrated U-235 stuff was verboten, but uranium ore was considered non-dangerous, and the government basically encouraged all and sundry to mine for the stuff the same way one would mine for gold or silver.
Especially in the '50s. And yes, I have a couple of bits of uranium ore around, as I was head that way up until 3 Mile Island. Then I went to work in the oil patch, where neutron sources are kept tightly accounted for, and the gamma rays come from the rock itself...

Those ingots were incredibly weak. Painted dishes from Mexico gave my Geiger Counter much, much more of a rise.
Try uranium glass....

@Kamaji

They are soooo obviously dangerous you honestly have to wonder how ANY adult thought buying one for their child was a good idea.
How about the fluoroscopes where you could see how well the shoes fit your kid?

It is worse than that. In 1930s women used radioactive makeup.

When beauty products were radioactive
https://www.cnn.com/style/article/when-beauty-products-were-radioactive/index.html

And there was radioactive medicine.

Also, the people involved in manufacturing those radium clock faces and dials, mostly female factory workers, kept dying. And nobody knew why for a decade.
Sure does things for the definition of a "hot" chick////

Yup!  My Birthday is today, and it's a "Twos Day" in addition to being a Tuesday.

   How have you survived @Cyber Liberty knowing you would never be #1, predetermined at Birth?
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
