Mr. M and I were in Frankfurt a few years ago and happened upon a building with a plaque indicating that Schindler once lived there, long after the events portrayed in the movie. For a moment we really couldn't speak. Hollywood became reality, and we thought about what he - and Frau Reinhardt - did.

That's pretty cool.  It's wild how an actual thing from history can bring the whole story back to you on a level that just can't be appreciated from the abstract.

One person CAN make a difference--IF they have the moral courage to do so.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

@verga

With all due respect to her,she didn't stand up to anything. She kept a list in secret. If it hadn't been a secret, she would have been arrested and executed.

BTW,this takes nothing away from her because she clearly understood the risk she was taking.

@sneakypete The world is 80% sheep, 10% wolves, and 10% sheep dogs. She chose not to be a sheep. Maybe she didn't carry a gun, but what she did required her to do something. And there are too many people that wring their hands and say "woe is me".

I didn't think he had been looking very good in recent appearances but I didn't know he was ill.  Surprised and sad to read of his passing.
Let it burn.

Quote
Fans were shocked by the sudden death of iconic comedian Gilbert Gottfried, who was just 67 when he passed on Tuesday.

His family called him “the most iconic voice in comedy” as they confirmed the devastating news in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, saying, “We are heartbroken” and sharing only that he’d died following a “long illness.”

Gottfried’s representative, Glenn Schwartz, has since shared that the actor succumbed to a heart abnormality called recurrent ventricular tachycardia, an arrhythmia caused by myotonic dystrophy type II.

Myotonic dystrophy (DM) is a genetic disorder marked by progressive muscle wasting and weakness, which predominantly affects the limbs and face but can create increasingly dire complications for respiratory, skeletal and cardiac muscles. ...

Liz Sheridan, so soon after George Costanza's mother. I understand Liz was close to James Dean back in the early 50s.

It’s weird how the actresses who played both George and Jerry’s moms died about two weeks within each other.

RIP Daryle Lamonica former Bills and raiders QB.  He was 80. In addition to being the 1967 AFL Championship MVP...Lamonica holds a .791 winning percentage, which is the second-highest for an NFL quarterback. He also holds a .900 winning percentage in the AFL, the highest in league history.

Absolutely adored him as a kid. I remember going to see them practice. He was one of the few (Along with OJ Simpson) that stuck around after p[ractice to make sure the EVERY kid got an autograph.
