Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon indicted by federal grand jury for contempt of Congress
The indictment is a first: No one has been prosecuted for contempt of Congress when executive privilege was asserted.

Nov. 12, 2021, 2:58 PM CST
By Pete Williams

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday, charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions from the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

The indictment is a first. No one has ever been prosecuted before for contempt of Congress when executive privilege was asserted. The past cases involved defendants whose testimony was sought regarding their government service. Bannon, by contrast, left his White House job in 2017, well before the period of interest to the House committee.

If convicted, Bannon could face up to a year behind bars and a fine of up to $100,000.

The fact that the Justice Department was willing to charge him with criminal contempt, despite an assertion of executive privilege, may help persuade other reluctant witnesses to agree to cooperate with the committee's investigation.

The committee has subpoenaed 16 former Trump White House officials for testimony, documents or both.

Something that NEVER happens to a Democrat, even under Trump.
Hillary, Holder, Fauci, and countless other members of the cabal, have been caught red-handed overtly lying to Congress. Nothing has ever happened to them and nothing will ever happen to them. "Laws" and rules apply only to Republicans. Democrats always exempt themselves and their acolytes in the street.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

Not complying with a political witch hunt while litigation is ONGOING about executive privilege is a legitimate reason for Bannon and others to wait to give ANYTHING to the J6 Committee.

The DOJ is acting in bad faith and completely partisan. This is not justice.— Jenna Ellis (@JennaEllisEsq) November 13, 2021

I really do not understand the grounds for the contempt indictment.

Appeals court blocks National Archives from giving Trump records to Capitol riot committee on Friday

A federal appeals court granted a hold sought by former President Donald Trump to block the National Archives from handing over documents to the Jan. 6 House committee.

The order is a victory for Trump, who sued the House and the National Archives and claimed executive privilege over more than 700 records related to the Capitol riot.

A federal judge rejected attempts by Trump earlier this week to stop the delivery of the first batch of documents, which was slated to happen on Friday, after which his team appealed.

Steve Bannon should go before the January 6th committee, plead the 5th on every question, while wearing a Let's Go Brandon shirt and hat.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
If contempt of Congress was actionable against the serfs half of America would be in jail. Real justice would be prosecuting members of Congress for contempt of America.

All they have to have their lawyer tell the committee is

Now that Democrats have started these politically-motivated indictments for Contempt of Congress, I look forward to seeing their reactions when we keep that same energy as we take back the House next year!

Steve Bannon surrenders after indictment on contempt of Congress charges
By Rebecca Beitsch - 11/15/21 09:51 AM EST

Onetime Trump White House strategist Stephen Bannon surrendered himself to law enforcement Monday, and was set to appear for a hearing after he was indicted by a federal grand jury for defying a congressional subpoena.

Bannon is facing two charges of criminal contempt of Congress, one for failing to appear for an Oct. 14 deposition before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and another for refusal to provide documents to the panel.

The charges were filed by the Department of Justice on Friday, leaving Bannon facing a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in jail, as well as a fine of $100 to $1,000 if convicted.

Flanked by a man holding a sign reading “coup plotter” as he entered into federal custody on Monday, Bannon briefly spoke to supporters on a livestream on the right-wing Gettr platform.

‘We’re taking down the Biden regime’: A defiant Steve Bannon livestreams his surrender to FBI on contempt charge

Former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon declared, “We’re taking down the Biden regime,” as he publicly surrendered to federal authorities Monday on contempt charges for defying a subpoena over documents and testimony pertaining to the Jan. 6 protest.

“We’re taking down the Biden regime,” he proclaimed. “I want you guys to stay focused, stay on message. Remember, signal, not noise. This is all noise, that’s signal.”

Seen walking into the building with his lawyer, David Schoen, who represented Trump in his second Senate trial, Bannon cautioned the aggressive reporters trying to get at him outside the FBI office, “Don’t get hurt.”

Bannon is expected to appear in court Monday on two charges of contempt over his refusal to appear for a deposition before the House Select Committee on the Capitol Hill riot and for refusing to produce related documents. Each count could get him up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $100,000.

His surrender was livestreamed for his podcast “War Room” on Gettr. Bannon did not take questions and only spoke briefly.

pointing-up      Political prosecutions were once considered outrageous.  What's happened to us?

We have leftists in control of the media, schools and govt. We now have political prisoners, political prosecutions and the military is being run by "woke" ideologues. We will see what happens with the elections next year and whether they are conducted honestly. I think the ultimate solution will be to find a way to have a peaceful divorce regardless of who wins in Nov. 22.

I don't want to live in a national socialist, or soviet socialist, country.

Exclusive — Alan Dershowitz: Bannon Indictment ‘Outrageous’, ‘Disputed Question’ Whether Trump Retains Executive Privilege

Robert Kraychik 15 Nov 2021
The Justice Department’s (DOJ) indictment of Steve Bannon is “outrageous,” Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz, author of The Case for Vaccine Mandates, said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday with host Joel Pollak.

Breitbart News reported on Friday, “President Joe Biden’s Justice Department indicted Steve Bannon on Friday, former President Donald Trump’s one-time White House senior counselor and a former chairman of Breitbart News.”

Bannon surrendered to federal authorities on Monday and faces contempt charges after defying a subpoena from a House committee ostensibly investigating the events of January 6th.

Dershowitz said, “It’s an outrageous indictment. I’ll tell you why it’s outrageous. You don’t indict somebody when you don’t know what the law is. Nobody knows whether or not Bannon has the right to refuse to answer if the president tells him not to.  That is a disputed question. That’s not a proper subject for criminal indictment.”
