Democrat says Friday vote 'not looking good'
By The Hill staff - 11/05/21 08:00 AM EDT

The House will convene at 8 a.m. Friday to begin work on passing President Biden's $1.75 trillion social spending and climate package, which has been stuck in a battle within the party between liberals and centrists fighting over its size and shape.

The internal battles, which have also gridlocked a bipartisan infrastructure bill already approved by the Senate, have been blamed for pulling down Biden's approval ratings, and for a dismal showing by the party in Tuesday's off-year elections, when Democrats lost the governor's race in Virginia — where Biden won by 10 points just a year ago.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) hopes to see the House pass both the spending package and the infrastructure bill on Friday, sending the latter to the White House for Biden's signature.

The former would go to the Senate, where it is likely to be subject to more changes.

I think we’re going to see more of these “not looking good” moments

Progressives won’t budge and moderates are gun shy after Tuesday
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

It's all Trump's fault.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-
