If you evet get to Europe (the continent east of us) fly to De Gaulle/Roissy in Paris, de-plane
and walk to the elevated terminal adjacent to the airport.
There you will see THOUSANDS queuing to board trains going all over Europe on a daily basis!
AND NONE OF THEM ARE FREIGHT!!!
Exporting the European model has worked famously where there are few alternatives to travel besides donkey carts and walking but even those exports are decaying
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-28156439 and it would not be the first time people were moved efficiently by rail.
In Europe during the past century, peak demand for passenger rail travel was so high, that even boxcars were used to provide space for the excess ridership. Some were even modified so supervisory personnel could ensure that passengers did not get off before their final destination:
Governing entities at the time found the railways to be the most efficient form of transportation.
But, thankfully, this is America.
The America of Interstates
and back roads,
...of jeep trails
and superhighways.
As long as we are mobile, can go where we want, when we want, we are free.
Mr Biden can drive his train into his alimentary canal from the South end if it means we lose that freedom.
For now,
I choose when I travel,
I choose where I go,
I choose what route and itinerary I take,
not from a list, but on my own time,
and to the place I decide.
That has been the way of Americans since before the streets of New York City were covered with horse shit, something which hasn't changed much, either, in my opinion.
What does the railroad offer in the context of eliminating freedom?
Efficiency, to be sure.
But not Liberty, if done at the expense of the freedom to travel when and where we want.
This government is not about Freedom, but Control.
The railroads used to "unite" a continent can be used to bind it and enslave it as well.
