A Texas mother and her boyfriend have been charged after authorities found three young siblings abandoned in a home along with the decaying body of their brother, police said Tuesday.

Brian W. Coulter, 31, was charged with murder in the death of an 8-year-old child -- who died in 2020 -- and whose remains were found inside the Houston home, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet.

Sheriff's deputies made the horrifying discovery on Sunday when they found three children -- 15, 10 and 7 years old -- and the dead body of the child.

"I had never heard of a scenario like this. It really caught me by surprise," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a news conference Sunday.

The mother, Gloria Y. Williams, was charged with injury to a child by omission and tampering with evidence involving a human corpse, Gonzalez said.

The victim, whose skeletal remains were found in an apartment where his three brothers were living alone, died from blunt force trauma.

The mother of three children found abandoned in a Houston-area apartment has been arrested and her boyfriend has been charged with murder in the death of a fourth child, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The 8-year-old victim, whose skeletal remains were found in an apartment with his three brothers, was ruled a homicide with blunt force injuries, the medical examiner's office said Tuesday.

The boyfriend, 31-year-old Brian Coulter, is accused of killing the boy in 2020, according to Gonzalez.

On Wednesday, a judge set Coulter's bond at $1 million, and he is currently being held at a mental health facility.

If bonded out, Coulter can't have any contact with the children or their mother, 35-year-old Gloria Williams. He must also wear a GPS monitor, will be kept under a 24-hour curfew and can't leave Harris County.

Williams is also in custody and charged with injury to a child by omission and tampering with evidence (human corpse). She is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.

For nearly a year, the siblings watched their brother’s body decompose.

Police found the skeletal remains of 8-year-old Kendrick Lee under a blanket in a bedroom. His mother, Gloria Williams, 35, found him under the blanket in November 2020 after her boyfriend beat the child to death, according to court records.

The boyfriend, Brian Coulter, 31, said he lost his temper and punched the child. Punches turned to kicks, court records continued.

Two of the boys witnessed the brutal assault. Kendrick eventually stopped moving. The man continued to kick him, according to police.
