Explosion at Russian gunpowder workshop kills 17 -- report
« on: October 24, 2021, 07:05:07 pm »
CNN by Katharina Krebs and Toyin Owoseje 10/22/2021

A deadly explosion at an ammunition disposal plant in Russia's western Ryazan province on Friday killed at least 17 people, Russia's official news agency TASS reported.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said a criminal investigation had been launched into the blast.

"The body of the 17th victim was taken out from under the rubble of the workshop. Search and rescue operations at the explosion site have been completed, there are no more people under the rubble," TASS cited the emergency services as saying.

"This is an egregious case, and everything possible must be done so that nothing like this will happen again. Both in hazardous industries and in those that are lower in hazard class, but can pose a threat to the life and health of people," he said. Lubimov said he would recommend that authorities carry out unscheduled inspections at such facilities.

They are trying to disarm old explosives INSIDE  a ammo factory?

They may exist, but I am not aware of any job more dangerous that disarming an old explosive. As it ages it can get so unstable it will explode from a temperature change,or it might not go off at all even if you try to set it off.

And there ain't no way of telling which you are dealing with at any given time.

This is why explosive experts (apparantly everywhere BUT Russia) insist on either blowing it where it sits,or putting it in a special "bomb truck) with a container on the back that looks like a cement truck roller.

Whoever was responsible for the brain fart that had them disarming a old explosive inside the building needs to be serving hard time for a long time.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!

Somehow I wonder if disposal is the correct word, considering it's those whacky Russians they may have been more into recycling materials than 'disposal'.
