“Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of Colin Powell. He was a great public servant, starting with his time as a soldier during Vietnam. Many Presidents relied on General Powell’s counsel and experience. He was National Security Adviser under President Reagan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under my father and President Clinton, and Secretary of State during my Administration. He was such a favorite of Presidents that he earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom – twice. He was highly respected at home and abroad. And most important, Colin was a family man and a friend. Laura and I send Alma and their children our sincere condolences as they remember the life of a great man.”

-President George W. Bush

I challenge anyone to find a statement from a Democrat that is as kind and sincere as this.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

Colin Powell, an accomplished and esteemed four-star general who became the first African-American secretary of State, died Monday as a result of complications from Covid-19, according to his family. He was 84.

Powell was fully vaccinated against Covid-19, his family said in a statement posted to Facebook. With his death, the former soldier and statesman becomes perhaps the most high-profile American public figure to succumb to a so-called “breakthrough” infection of the novel coronavirus.

“We want to thank the medical staff at Walter Reed National Medical Center for their caring treatment,” the Powell family said in its statement. “We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American.”

... used and abused by Bush '43 Administration to justify 2003 Iraq foreign adventure.

Another betrayal of Republican values by Bush '43.

Amen! Also, had Bush Sr., listened to the advice of Powell, perhaps 9/11 wouldn't have happened -- we will never know.

Chuckles the Clown weighs in:

"Secretary Colin Powell dedicated his life to defending our nation. As National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of State, he was an independent thinker and a barrier breaker who inspired leaders in our military and throughout our nation.
Secretary Powell served our nation with courage, unwavering in his belief in its principles and its promise. The son of immigrants, Secretary Powell rose through the ranks of the United States Army. He was a decorated veteran and a devoted patriot.
I last saw and spoke with Secretary Powell in July, at a dinner honoring German Chancellor Angela Merkel. I was reminded then how he always showed the world the best of who we are. He upheld the highest standards, representing our nation with dignity, grace, and strength.
The legacy that he leaves behind - on America’s national security and on the leaders he mentored - can be seen every day across our nation and the world.
Douglas and I send our deepest condolences to Secretary Powell's wife, Alma Powell, and their children and grandchildren."

NY Post story from 2016:
Quote
Colin Powell wrote in a jaw-dropping e-mail that he doesn’t want to vote for his pal Hillary Clinton because she’s a greedy defender of the status quo whose husband is “still d–king bimbos at home (according to the NYP)” — the New York Post.

“I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect,” the former secretary of state wrote Democratic donor Jeffrey Leeds on July 26, 2014.

“A 70-year person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational, with a husband still d–kng bimbos at home (according to the NYP),” reads the explosive e-mail obtained by the Web site DCLeaks. Hillary is actually 68. ...

Joe Biden: ‘Unfortunately’ Colin Powell’s Coronavirus Vaccine ‘Didn’t Work’ Due to ‘Underlying Conditions’

Charlie Spiering 18 Oct 2021

President Joe Biden expressed his regret Monday that former Secretary of State Colin Powell died of complications from the coronavirus, despite being fully vaccinated.

Biden commented on Powell’s death after a surprise appearance at the White House honoring the State and National Teachers of the Year on Monday.

“By the way, he had serious underlying conditions, as you know, that’s the problem. It wasn’t that the vaccinations aren’t good, he had two very serious underlying conditions,” he told reporters. “And unfortunately didn’t work. God love him.”

Biden was referring to Powell being treated for multiple myeloma and early stage Parkinson’s disease before his death.

Powell’s family did not mention any underlying conditions in their statement announcing his death.

Biden snapped at a reporter who asked if he still wanted Americans to get vaccinated.

“Absolutely,” he replied. “I know you don’t believe that. So ask questions that you really want an answer to, okay?”

Powell’s death from the virus, despite his being fully vaccinated, sparked immediate controversy on social media among vaccine supporters and opponents.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said during the daily briefing that deaths of fully vaccinated individuals are “extremely rare.”

“That has been the case even before the death of Colin Powell, especially among people, older people over a certain age, and people who have underlying health issues or people who are battling other diseases,” she said.

Do dementia and a history of brain aneurysms count as serious underlying conditions? Looks like maybe Joe's vaccine (assuming he really got one) may not work, either.

There is not, and there never will be, a vaccine against mortality.

For context, from someone I know who recently battled—and won that battle against—multiple myeloma:

The chemotherapy and other treatments one goes through to battle multiple myeloma essentially wipe the immune system clean. When the treatment is over, the patient has to go through the full battery of childhood immunizations all over again. So if Sec. Powell was undergoing the same treatment, chances are the COVID vaccine was essentially erased from his system.

Colin Powell was vaccinated against Covid, but suffered from a cancer that makes the shots less effective

Colin Powell, 84, died Monday morning due to complications from Covid-19.

Powell was fully vaccinated against the virus, his family said in a statement.

Powell was elderly, a known risk for severe Covid, and suffered from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that studies show can make the shots less effective.

A study published in late July found that only 45% of patients with active multiple myeloma developed an "adequate" immune response after getting vaccinated with either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

Just 22% of patients in the study had a "partial" response.

OR ... the vaccine weakens the immune system and for someone fighting cancer, that's not a good thing.

That's possible short-term—there are quite a few cases of someone contracting the virus very soon after getting one of the shots (or, unknowingly, vice versa) and overwhelming the immune system... but that would depend on when he got the shot.

Aw, shucks, Bigun.
The sad thing is that the vaccinemongers really believe that and have said so publicly with regard to other Covid patients. Well, yes, he died, but thanks to being vaccinated, his symptoms weren't as severe as they might have been.  *****rollingeyes*****

The death of General Colin Powell has drawn an outpouring of sympathy and praise from politicians, but social media users made “war criminal” trend instead, having not forgiven Powell for his role in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Powell died on Monday of complications from Covid-19, according to his family. He was eulogized in major media outlets as the first black secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. President Joe Biden said Powell embodied “the highest ideals of both warrior and diplomat,” while 43rd president George W. Bush called him a “great public servant.”

Another image, however, dominated the social media reactions to his death: that of Powell holding up a vial of fake anthrax in the UN General Assembly in 2003, claiming that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and making the case for the US invasion that followed.

You can always depend on the liberals to be a beacon of compassion.  And I was surprised on the amount of "praise" from the left for a man who gave his whole life to this county.  STUNNING! :3:

Unless he can prove Powell was infected through contact with a particular unvaccinated person, that may be the most ignorant reaction yet to the man's death.
