Supply Chain Backlog to Last Until Summer of Next Year, Despite 24/7 Operating Hours: Officials
By Drew Van Voorhis
October 14, 2021 Updated: October 15, 2021

Despite President Biden’s announcement Wednesday that the severely backlogged Port of Los Angeles would expand into 24/7 operating hours—similar to the Port of Long Beach—port officials are saying the backlog will continue until the summer of 2022.

Noel Hacegaba, deputy executive director of the Port of Long Beach, said expanding the ports’ operating hours will not impact the supply chain disruptions given the continued shortage of truck drivers, chassis equipment, and warehouse operations and space.

“We think it’ll be summer of 2022 before we clear all 60 ships,” Hacegaba told The Epoch Times Oct. 14. “Of course, if we take some measures now, and everyone in the supply chain starts expanding their hours of operation … we’re going to get there sooner.”

Hacegaba showed optimism that expanding port hours of operation will encourage the rest of the supply chain to step up their efforts.

Just looked up when the Pacific Coast Longshormen's Labor contract ends. 2022.   Can you see the problem?   They can write their own contract if the log jam continues into 2022.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
I imagine the supply chain backlog will continue on forever now, because of [insert vague bureaucrat reasons here].

And we have always been at war with Eastasia.

Now would be a great time to set up some manufacturing in the US

Funny you say that. We don't really have enough workers for a manufacturing base, so why not do what they've been talking about for years - automation?

10 factories with 50 workers is the same as 1 with 500, except the overall production base is 10X as large.

It'd be the perfect fit.

Well,it can take a while for established and successful businesses to go bankrupt so they can be bought up for  a dime on the dollar, and then wait for the goobermint grant and tax breaks to come through so the new owners can go back on line and start selling.

To Brandon's chagrin, on the bright side this will lead right up to the '22 elections.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
