California Crushing Suburban American Dream by Eliminating Single Family Homes, Enriching Multi-Unit Developers

Penny Starr 13 Oct 2021

A pillar of the American Dream is under assault across the country, but nowhere is it more pronounced than in California where social justice activists and Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom are invading single-family home neighborhoods with plans to replace them with multi-unit properties.

A brochure for a San Diego neighborhood in the 1950s highlighted why families flocked to the suburbs: “More luxury at lower cost,” “private and protected,” “beauty and convenience.”

Add to that safety from urban crime, and Americans embraced this part of the Dream by the millions.

“It was a California fantasy,” the New York Times said of Clairemont Villas. “Over six colorful pages the brochure sold buyers on an indoor-outdoor lifestyle where the living room opened to a yard and children played behind a redwood fence.”

There are many things wrong with Newsom's policies, but characterizing the end of single-family zoning as "crushing suburban American dream by eliminating single family homes" is rubbish.  The American suburban dream in California has already been crushed by confiscatory tax policies, the lack of enough areas zoned for multi-family dwellings to absorb some housing demand pushing house prices even higher than they otherwise would be, and the generally anti-business (esp. anti-small business) policies of the California government.

If anything, allowing more multi-family housing construction will moderate prices on existing and new single-family dwellings, which would benefit the "American suburban dream".
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I'll admit that for years I have hated watching subdivisions creep farther out into the countryside here, but realized that young Americans need to have a chance at owning their own home as I did.

Then I consider that ALL of the growth over the past several decades in California is immigrant related, mostly lower skilled labor, with all the attendant societal changes that has wrought. Rightly or wrongly this makes me far less sympathetic to the prospective new homebuyer.

It's the Soviet way.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

The bill did not "Eliminate Single Family Homes". It eliminated most single-family-house-only zoning, https://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,448620.0.html . Whether it is challenged and upheld in court remains to be seen.

The demand for single-family houses remains. Consequently, single-family houses may be as or more profitable as multi-unit developments, and, contrary to the Breitbart article's claim, continue to be built.

Why in Hades is a supposedly conservative news outlet bogeymanizing a legal and necessary business - "Enriching Multi-Unit Developers"?

And could California Haters at least come up with more accurate bash-articles?

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.
