California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

California took another step toward its goal of ridding the state of all gas-powered engines thanks to a new bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday.

The new law will ban the sale of all off-road, gas-powered engines, including generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, and even golf carts. Under the new law , these machines must be zero-emissions, meaning they will have to be either battery-powered or plug-in, according to the Los Angeles Times .

"This is a pretty modest approach to trying to limit the massive amounts of pollution that this equipment emits, not to mention the health impact on the workers who are using it constantly," Marc Berman, the bill's author, told the outlet. "It’s amazing how people react when they learn how much this equipment pollutes, and how much smog forming and climate changing emissions that small off-road engine equipment creates."

The new law is expected to affect nearly 50,000 small businesses . California's budget includes $30 million to help professional landscapers and gardeners quit using gas-powered equipment, but even then, the budget is still not capable of bearing the full financial burden.

So let me get this straight.

You have to have a battery powered backup generator?

No, not at all.  You can have one as long as you purchase it anywhere outside of California.  Same goes for lawn mowers, chain saws, trimmers, and off-road vehicles.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

California is becoming a lunatic asylum.
It is a form of self-deprecating suicide. Death by a thousand cuts.
All these little things, as California calls them, in combination with insane COVID requirements, add up to an overwhelming tsunami of regulation which 'will' eventually cause All small businesses in California to close.

Whether they realize it or not, the California Communist are essentially shutting down the State from conducting any kind of commercial business. It will not be long before California's economy is idle.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Your are right, Newsom is destroying CA's economy.  Their economy is (or at least was) the largest in the U.S.

It's really time for RED states to ban together. FL and TX have the next largest economies.  NY does as well, but since it shutdown so much for so long, it's hard to tell what their economy is like.

Well, in honesty, most of Congress, has become a lunatic asylum led by someone who's in la la land most of the time. I absolutely have compassion for those with cognitive decline, but Joe shouldn't be running the country.

California is at war with small businesses. (they call them racist) But that is not all. California is driving mega-corporations out as well. There is no question that California has become a militantly anti-business State.

Over the next few years, we will all see California devolve into the third world (which is where they 'want' to be) even more than it is now.

I’ll vouch for that. There is real animosity towards small businesses and I’m not exactly sure why. Seems self destructive.

Okay, the acceptance of the military settlement of the War Between the States into the American Constitutional order makes secession a non-starter, but is there any way we can contrive to expel California from the Union?  It's not just the small engine ban, there's their not knowing how to manage forest lans, their introducing a CRT graduation requirement into their high school curricula, the fact that Hollywood, and Berkeley and San Francisco are there,...
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Because big businesses can buy what's left over for pennies on the dollar and diversify.

Many, many of us chose wisely but being a socialist controlled state who knows what the true vote was? If the democrats could steal a presidency would be any effort for them to steal a state?

As they will in all elections to come, for evermore.

The only way California will be brought back to reality is (literally) "by conquest".
That means an Army (nothing less) will have to go in there, defeat whatever resistance is found, and then put the state under a government of "military reconstruction" until the population can be re-educated enough for responsible self-government again.

Please show me where I'm wrong.

Shirley there must be an exemption for the Hispanic landscapers who will be disproportionately affected because they can't afford to replace their worn out tools of the trade that spew oil and gas fumes, not to mention the irritating noise. No doubt Noisome and his fellow minions who supposedly represent legal Californians will take even more of the taxpayers cash and gift to these poor Hispanic landscapers so that they can buy shiny new battery operated equipment ecological powered by fossil fuels.

I so wish I was being sarcastic rather than prophetic.

They're doing that for cosmetologists - the State Board, who governs sanitary and other industry standards, is seeking the discretion to allow waivers for those who cut hair on overturned buckets in the barrio, ghetto etc. while those who try to abide by the rules will continue to have their nuts in the Board's vice. In a manner of speaking.

Even generators?

But, I can still smuggle that stuff from Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico?

Could be a very lucrative organized crime opportunity.

Sheep and goats: self-replicating lawnmowers.

I'd include cows, but apparently they fart, and that would be counterproductive...

The good news for the rest of us is there is going to be a glut of both new and used riding mowers on the market,at rock bottom prices.

Not to mention ATV's that were going to be used by hunters and campers. It would take a REALLY long cord to be able to plug them in each night for recharging when you consider how far off the beaten path these people go.
