WASHINGTON – At the end of September 2021, the US Army received the first two ground launchers for hypersonic missiles of the LRHW [Long Range Hypersonic Weapon] complex, also officially called the Dark Eagle, learned BulgarianMilitary.com. These launchers were mounted on semi-trailers transported by Oshkosh HEMTT A4 M983A4 Patriot tractors – the same chassis is used for Patriot SAMs.

In addition, large-scale models of LRHW missile transport and launch containers were transferred, and all of this equipment was received by one of the units of the 17th Field Army Artillery Brigade, according to The Drive portal.

It is noted that both received launchers received their names – Stormbreaker and Hyperion, on each launcher there are two transport and launch containers for LRHW missiles.

This event with the transfer of the first two ground launchers for hypersonic missiles marked the beginning of the formation of the first battery of hypersonic missiles in the US Army, the formation and deployment of this unit should take place by early 2023.
