‘That sucks!’ Fans sounds off when Food Network parts ways with long-time chef Bobby Flay
October 8, 2021 | Frank Webster

Superstar chef Bobby Flay is saying goodbye to his home of 27 years at the Food Network. Flay and the network have been in contract negotiations for some time now, but they appear to have reached an impasse as they are too far apart on financial terms, prompting Food Network to halt the negotiations.

Flay has hosted 16 shows and specials over his time with Food Network. His tenure at the network, which began in 1994 during the network’s infancy, has made the restaurateur and businessman a household name. Some of the network’s offerings featuring the chef have been “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Brunch at Bobby’s” as well as the original “Grillin’ and Chillin” series.

He has also been a regular competitor and favorite on game shows from “Chopped” and “Iron Chef America” to “Worst Cooks in America,” “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” and “The Next Food Network Star.”

Food Network is pretty much unwatchable now, anyway. They got away from actually showing us how to cook, in favor of nonstop lame competitions and the insufferable Guy Ferry (not Fieri, he just made that up).

27 years with one company is a great run for anyone, especially a chef.

I'm just wondering: if Food Network, the biggest name in food and cooking television, can't meet Flay's monetary demands, then who can? Is he willing to take $0 (in exchange, perhaps, for more free time, which is not trivial) rather than a lesser amount?

Bobby Flay out at Food Network after 27 years: Company ‘cut off talks"
NY Post, Oct 7, 2021

Bobby Flay is getting an Irish goodbye from the Food Network. After 27 years, the culinary channel is reportedly chopping ties with the celebrity chef who helped put it on the pop culture map.

Flay, 56, was cooking up a new contract with the Discovery-owned company as the end of his current three-year exclusive nears — but those negotiations burned out amid buzz both sides were “far apart on financial terms.”

An insider close to the stalled deal has confirmed to The Post that Discovery “cut off talks” with Flay — not the other way around.

The Post has reached out to the fourth-generation Irish-American chef, restaurateur and cookbook author for comment.

Flay, who famously dropped out of high school at 17 to pursue a kitchen career, has been part of the popular cable cooking channel since its early days in 1994 — and became a household name while starring in a string of his own eponymous shows.
