A Chinese invasion of Taiwan would be a bad thing.

He's trying to say that when the Chinese decide to take Taiwan all the media will be taken down at the same time.

exactly... the MSM will not report anything negative and if the administration takes down all social media, including the briefing room, then no one knows anything is going on.
China, russia, iran, all use that strategy to keep the riots under control.

What I don't understand is why it would be a big loss. Most of the crap that passes for news these days is nothing but propaganda anyhow. We NEVER get the truth on anything reported. We only get the approved version.

Well, the fact that this incident took down Facebook's internal security protocols - like the access cards used to obtain physical access to buildings - indicates that Facebook is not, in fact, using good security practices - not only were its content servers not segmented, and updated seriatim, its internal security networks were taken down right along with their content servers - and therefore it is possible that this was a gigantic bollux.
