It may not be today, but eventually, aircraft carriers will be too vulnerable to justify their tremendous costs.

Here's What You Need to Remember: From the USS Forrestal on, the U.S. Navy supercarrier has existed in basically the same form since the 1950s, and is expected to continue operating into the latter half of the twenty-first century.

We know how to kill aircraft carriers—or at least we know how best to try to kill aircraft carriers. Submarine-launched torpedoes, cruise missiles fired from a variety of platforms and ballistic missiles can all give an aircraft carrier a very bad day. Of course, modern carriers have ways of defending themselves from all of these avenues of attack, and we don’t yet have any good evidence of the real balance between offensive and defensive systems.

It already has.  They are nothing but bloated targets for hypersonic missiles.  An all subsurface Navy would scare the willeys out of our "allies" like the Taliban and China.

When we can get attack and surveillance aircraft from anywhere in the world, to anywhere in the world in less than two hours, aircraft carriers will have lost their mission. America was very close to realizing that capability before Biden. However, Biden and his gaggle of Chinese Communists controlling him have shut down most military research in America. The last thing the Chinese want is a strong America. Which is why they picked Biden and his giggle gal Kamala.

It depends on the war you need to fight. They're great for fighting some third world country.

They would be destroyed in short order in a real war fighting a modern enemy. There is no reliable way of defending a large slow moving very visible target on the ocean from modern weapons.

As long as we want to establish air superiority anywhere in the world, we'll need Carriers.  They key word in the previous sentence is "want."
