Human remains have been found inside a 12-foot-long alligator that was killed Monday after it was believed to have attacked a 71-year-old Louisiana man in Hurricane Ida floodwaters.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office was working with investigators to determine if the remains were those of Timothy Satterlee, who has been missing since the Aug. 30 attack, the sheriff’s office said.

The agency said on its Facebook page that the beast — which weighed “a startling 504 pounds” — was captured with the help of US and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents in the area of Avery Estates, close to where Satterlee went missing.

The alligator had torn off Satterlee’s arm inside his shed, which was under several feet of water during the storm surge near Lake Pontchartrain.

Licensed hunters Phillip McClurke and Eric Dumas set traps to catch animal, which was caught Monday, officials said.
