“Snowicane” Larry Forecast to Dump Five+ Feet of Summer Snow on Greenland
September 10, 2021 Cap Allon

HURRICANE Larry is set to transition into a “massive blizzard” as it approaches Newfoundland. This setup is highly unusual for the time of the year, with the storm expected to dump as much as five feet of global warming goodness on Greenland.

It’s not unprecedented for a hurricane to move into cold-enough air to produce snow — it even has a name: “snowicane”.

However, although not unheard of, it has only happened a handful of times in recorded history…

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
But...but... that will add to the glaciers...

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hmmm, well, I found a source stating that 10 inches of snow typically equals 1 inch of solid water.  Ice is solid water, but expands slightly as compared to the same volume of liquid water.  5 feet is about 60 inches, so 5 feet of snow should yield approximately 6 inches of new ice on the glaciers, or maybe a little more depending on whether the expansion as it freezes takes place more vertically or laterally.

Of course, since glacier ice typically forms from compression, rather than strictly melting and refreezing, there may be additional inclusions of air in the ice that forms, making it even thicker.

At any rate, it seems this snowicane itself could add half a foot of new glacier ice.
