‘We need everybody’: Plans to make women register for potential military draft advance in policy bill

Plans to require women to register with the Selective Service System for the possibility of a future military draft took another step forward after a key congressional panel backed the change as part of a must-pass military budget policy bill.

The House Armed Services Committee approved the proposal by a 35-24 vote, with support from all Democrats and several Republicans on the panel. Supporters said the time to include women in cases of national emergency is long overdue.

“The current male-only registration sends a message to women not only that they are not vital to the defense of the country, but also that they are not expected to participate in defending it,” said Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., an Air Force veteran and author of the amendment.

Much ado about nothing since there will never be another draft. The military doesn't want a draft, parents don't want a draft, draft age folks don't want a draft... get it? There won't be a draft.

The days of massive formations of troops maneuvering against the enemy are OVER. The days of precision munitions nailing bad guys from over the horizon is here.

There was a day when war meant devastating your enemy. Kill his soldiers by the hundreds of thousands. Level his cities. Destroy his ability to wage war, feed his population or travel in his homeland.

Those days are gone. Now war means a drone strike here and there... maybe a surgical air strike... possibly taking out a key target or two.

You don't need a lot of people to do those things.

There will never again be a draft.
