5 Rockets Fired at Kabul Airport, Stopped by Missile Defense System

A missile defense system in Kabul on Monday intercepted five rockets fired at the international airport. No casualties were reported.

A U.S. defense official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the rockets were intercepted via a C-RAM missile defense system. The official did not confirm if all five rockets were brought down short of Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The attack comes shortly after a U.S. airstrike on ISIS-K in response to the terrorist attack last Thursday that killed 13 U.S. servicemembers.

Earlier on Sunday, a suicide bomber aiming to attack the airport was killed in a U.S. drone strike while driving in his vehicle.

CENTCOM Investigating Reports of Civilian Deaths in Kabul ‘Defensive Strike’

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a statement on Sunday indicating that it would investigate reports of civilian deaths that, it said, may have resulted from secondary explosions after an airstrike took out a would-be suicide bomber.

As Breitbart News and other agencies reported earlier on Sunday, an American drone targeted a car that was said to be carrying multiple suicide bombers to the international airport in Kabul. U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Urban, a spokesman for CENTCOM, said: “Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material.”

There were unconfirmed reports from Kabul that there were multiple civilians killed — possibly as a result of the hidden explosives in the vehicle, rather than a direct hit from the airstrike itself.

In a statement, CENTCOM said:

We are aware of reports of civilian casualties following our strike on a vehicle in Kabul today.

We are still assessing the results of this strike, which we know disrupted an imminent ISIS-K threat to the airport. We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties. It is unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further.

We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life.

American University of Afghanistan students were told ‘we have given your names to the Taliban’ and there is ‘no evacuation’ coming

About 600 American University of Afghanistan students, their families, and staff members are reportedly stranded on the ground in or near Kabul, and to make matters far worse and more dangerous, the Taliban knows who they are are.

On Sunday, after initially gathering at a safe house, they boarded and then waited in buses for seven hours before being denied access to the airport because of security threats at the gates, and the evacuation on U.S. military planes was called off.

“They told us: we have given your names to the Taliban. We are all terrified, there is no evacuation, there is no getting out,” one student told The New York Times. Information shared with the Taliban by U.S. military also reportedly included passport information.

In a briefing last week, Joe Biden told inquisitive reporters that every American who wants to get out of Afghanistan would get out of Afghanistan and he was counting on the Taliban's "self interest" in letting the Americans leave.

Turns out the Taliban has its own ideas about what its self-interest is.

Yet they are purposely leaving Americans behind. This Administration is telling Americans and SIV holders to come to the airport and expose their identities to the Taliban. Yet when some actually make it through the Taliban check points and arrive at the airport gates, they are denied entry into the airport.
