Article is soft-paywalled, but the basic summary is that a study noted a strong correlation between proximity to smoke from wildfires and the spread of coronavirus, with at least one county showing a majority of its cases during the study period from wildfire smoke, and not person-to-person contact, which all the public health experts have blamed. The hypothesis is that the virus spike proteins are attaching to particulate matter in the smoke and blowing in the wind, truly becoming fully airborne (and thus resistant to social distancing).

In all, 19,000 cases and 700 deaths were tied to smoke.

J. Myrle, there is no "paywall" that can't be easily defeated in 2 seconds.

Just turn of javascript and reload the page.
The text of the article will load, and that's all you need.
No pics, graphics, video, etc., but then again ... the text will load, and that's all you need.

Why can't more folks here learn this simple trick?

Because it's technically illegal and although you don't care, I for one am not going to overtly encourage theft and post stolen content. We've had members banned for doing such in the past.

That is very interesting.

Smoke starting to ramp up here, it seems. I saw the characteristic red/orange sun this morning.

Put down the drink, man.

Again, I openly encourage everyone in this forum to take my advice and do that.

All I'm doing is reading a page of news posted freely on the internet.
Same as if I was reading it from this very site.

More symptoms from the irritants in the smoke=>more tests for COVID=>more cases.

30-40 cycle PCR tests...enough cycles and a horseshoe will come down with COVID.

There may be a correlation (not causation) because a lot of smoke in the air will cause "flu-like symptoms"--runny nose, Upper Respiratory congestion, cough, red eyes--enough to get someone tested--and we already know the tests produced false positives.

If we were getting gray skies, a red sun, and noticeably reduced visibility (and some days, even wood smoke/leaves burning odors) in ND, you can imagine what it would be like closer to the fire.

JAVA sucks, anyway.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

You can grab something off the shelf of a grocery store and put it in your pocket without paying, too. It's still stealing something that isn't supposed to be free.

I mean, yeah, you can do it and you probably won't get caught, but I'm not going to encourage it.
