A large blaze at Victoria’s “big battery” project has been brought under control by firefighters after burning for more than three days, allowing investigators to begin examining the site.

A Tesla battery bank caught fire while it was being set up in Moorabool on Friday morning, and then spread to a second battery.

The fire burned throughout the weekend and into a fourth day, before it was declared under control just after 3pm on Monday.

Fire crews will remain at the site for the next 24 hours “as a precaution in case of reignition” and will take temperature readings every two hours, the Country Fire Authority said....

Looking at the pic in post 1 above, it looks like that "big battery project" is still under construction and is as-yet non-operational?

What kind of service life will these "batteries" have in the real world?

Doesn't look like a reliable "storage device" to me...

Correct.

With active thermal management, 10 years lifetime is possible provided the battery is cycled within a restricted 54% operating range.

i.e. Put limits puts on how fast batteries are charged and discharged to prevent overheating and operating between 23% to 76% of physical capacity to charge/discharge.

It appears to be the first ever fire of utility type installations and was not yet in operations.  Could be a construction mistake or something out of normal happening.
