YouTube said Sunday it had barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for one week, citing concerns about Covid-19 misinformation.

The move comes after a review of posts uploaded by the Rupert Murdoch-owned TV channel, which has a substantial online presence.

"We have clear and established Covid-19 medical misinformation policies... to prevent the spread of Covid-19 misinformation that could cause real-world harm," a YouTube statement said.

With 1.86 million YouTube subscribers, the channel -- which is owned by a subsidiary of Murdoch's News Corp -- has a conservative following well beyond Australia.

Its posts, including some questioning whether there is a pandemic and the efficacy of vaccines, are widely shared on social media forums around the world that spread virus and vaccine misinformation.

Sky News Australia has been banned for a week from uploading videos to Youtube after it was accused of spreading misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sky News Australia channel on YouTube received a "strike" over "numerous" video clips, including "content that denies the existence of Covid-19," the video platform said.

It means that the broadcaster is blocked from publishing videos on YouTube for seven days, and will be permanently banned from the platform if it receives a second and third strike in future.

SkyNews has explicitly denied that it ever claimed that COVID does not exist, according to this Washington Post report just out. Here's what it probably was really about:

Australian media reported that the one-week suspension came after a review of Sky News Australia content that denied the existence of Covid-19 or encouraged people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin to treat the coronavirus. A YouTube spokesman told the Guardian that the video clips on hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin would have been allowed if "sufficient countervailing context" had been provided by the uploader.

They added that "we don’t allow content that denies the existence of Covid-19."

"misinformation" = facts that oppose the accepted narrative.

1. Liberals want you to wear a mask as a sign of obedience.
2. Science tells us that a mask doesn't stop Covid. That's why nursing homes became Covid hot spots even though the staff all wore masks. That's why your doctor wears a face shield.

#2 is true but is considered misinformation because it opposes #1.

I thought they wanted masks so we couldn't see when their lips were moving (a sure indication of their incontinent prevarication).

Unnecessary in Biden's case, he's so non compos mentis that his statements are incoherent and he couldn't be held accountable for that babbling anyway.
