Green Beret Killed in Training Accident at Special Forces Combat Diver School
Mil & Intel

By Matt White | July 29, 2021

Update, 6 p.m., July 29: This story has been updated with information that students in Walker’s class were performing a drill in which they tread water when he was pulled from the pool, and with the number of students who have died in the school’s history.

A Special Forces soldier died in a training accident at the Army’s infamously tough Combat Diver Qualification Course in Key West, Florida, the Army announced Wednesday.

Staff Sgt. Micah E. Walker became a Green Beret in January 2021, after enlisting in 2017. He was a Special Forces medical sergeant assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson, Colorado. Walker’s hometown was listed as Peyton, Colorado, a rural farming community about an hour north of the base, outside Colorado Springs.

This happens occasionally, and there isn't a damn thing that can be done about it unless you change the training to the point it is useless.

Being in Special Forces is a dangrous job,and if you are not willing to accept the risks, you should put in for a transfer to a conventional unit.

The only thing surprising to me is the fact that so few students die during training. You MUST pay complete attention to what the instructors are telling you,and if you don't completly understand something, you MUST ask for clarification. If you don't,you are not only a danger to yourself, but a danger to your teammates.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!
