After release of unprecedented amount of sulfur dioxide, Taal volcano erupts in the Philippines (video and photos) – Mass evacuation underway
Following the recent massive release of sulfur dioxide, the Taal volcano in the Philippines has already had 3 eruptions this morning, July 1, 2021.
The following video by Philvocs features one of the 3 phreatomagmatic eruptions of Tall today 3:16 PM:
There were 2 smaller phreatomagmatic eruptions recorded from 6:26 PM and 7:21 PM that lasted 2 minutes and produced 200-meters high plumes.
Alert Level was raised from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3. Authorities started evacuating thousands of people on Thursday.
To know if your place is safe, the maps below show you the different hazard maps of the Taal volcano with attached, the lists of baranggays prone to Taal Base Surge, Taal Volcanic Tsunami, and Taal Taal Ballistic Projectile.
The warning bulleting from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reads:
“This serves as notice for the raising of the alert status of Taal from Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) to Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest). At 1516H (3:16 PM) PST, Taal Volcano Main Crater generated a short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume 1 kilometer-high with no accompanying volcanic earthquake.
“In view of the above, DOST-PHIVOLCS is now raising the alert status of Taal from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3. This means that there is magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions.
