Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is "seriously considering" including a Republican among her appointments to the new select committee dedicated to investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, an aide said Monday.

Under the resolution to create the panel, Pelosi would appoint eight members while House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) would name five.

The House is expected to vote Wednesday on the resolution to create the panel, which is expected to pass largely along party lines and will be tasked with investigating "the facts, circumstances, and causes relating to the domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol."

"January 6th was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. It is imperative that we establish the truth of that day and ensure such an attack cannot again happen," Pelosi said in a statement on Monday shortly after the bill to create the committee was introduced.

If Pelosi were to include a member of the opposing party among her eight appointments, that would narrow the partisan margin to seven Democrats and six Republicans.

Pelosi is correct about one thing; Jan. 6, 2020 was indeed one of the darkest days in our history.  We lost our Republic!

Pelosi with a packed investigation of democrats, who have already decided on the outcome, is willing to allow A Republican as part of the proceedings.  Not that the Republican could have any serious effect, but so Pelosi could say justified because it was a bi-partisan investigation!  Haven't we seen enough o0f the phony posturing by now ?  Expect the Republican to be a tried and true democrat-Republican known for an extensive Lewinsky record, like Romney!

BREAKING: Speaker Pelosi Reveals Partisan Jan. 6 Committee — One Anti-Trump GOP Member Poised to Stab Trump in the Back

Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have her January 6th “investigation” committee, but it was understood that it would be a completely partisan affair. But at least one GOP name has come up that would give the open-ended witch hunt a fig leaf of bi-partisanship.

The Speaker’s proposal would allow her to appoint 13 members to form a committee that would report on the “facts, circumstances, and causes relating to the January 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex,” including “facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies in the National Capital Region and other instrumentalities of government, as well as the influencing factors that fomented such an attack on American representative democracy while engaged in a constitutional process.”

The January 6 committee would have subpoena power and could order dispositions without House minority input. The proposal is due to be voted on Wednesday.
