Uh...no.
The United States had a Civil War over the Rodents' effort to force the other states to accept slavery. The other states didn't want anything to do with slavery and didn't want it expanded to the territories, either. Not only did the territories not want slavery, new states like California outlawed it.
And now California, a state that never permitted slavery, has the urge to tax people who never owned slaves to give "reparations" to people who were never slaves.
But you could at least make some effort to identify what the Civil War was about. The federal government was making NO effort to change the state of slavery in the Slave States. The federal government even passed laws requiring the other states to seize ambulating property and return said property to their owners. What pissed the South off was that the other states refused to act on the Fugitive Slave Act and the federal government refused to force those states to comply. Which would seem to be the exact opposite of the "federal government usurping the rights of the States".
@Sled Dog Say WHAT???????
The War of Northern Oppression was about the yankee bankers wanting to seize the big farms and take over control of the south. The south had already started shipping their cotton directly to Europe without going though the NY banks,and this had them pissed.
It did not have a single damn thing to do with slavery. Anybody that is upset about slavery in the south needs to look into what happened to the freed slaves that moved north to work in the factories,and the working conditions they faced. If they got sick,they just died. When they were slaves,they were valuable property and the slave owners got a doctor in to see them. They even had better housing and food under slavery.
Humanity had nothing to do with it one way or the other. It was all about protecting a valuable asset.
No,I am NOT saying slavery was a good thing,but let's get real about this. It was the black African tribal leaders that sold captured warriors from other tribes into slavery,as well as their own sick,lame,and lazy troublemakers. The white man had nothing to do with it other than buying what was for sale.
The war about nothing more and nothing less than the greed of the yankee bankers.
Kinda like most of the wars of recent times.
