In my life, worked in several Fortune 500 companies.
A 50 dollar shirt was considered to be a 'shmata' to those guys.
I lived in a completely different world than the one you know.
But it was still the same thing, fighting for survival, looking out for predators all the time.
The Corporate world is not so different from the Wild West.
We were all 'on our own'. To live or die was an everyday, every week, every month was a question.
Just like any mountain man. Same thing, only a different world.
Actually, I know. I have been in Armani a couple times... Never bought the damn thing. Hit town and rent one, make the meeting, and send it back... At the time I was a front guy for a major hotel chain. I went into a town they were looking at and did all the footwork, coming up with 3 packages to present, and they would decide from there... And then I would hook em up with the package they wanted, leaving them anonymous until the end... They got in way cheaper if folks didn't know they were coming to town.
Thankfully that was a short run for me. I decided I am what I am, and went to such things in my natural way - Sh*tkickers or construction boots, and jeans and a t-shirt and a (probably camo) ball cap. Funny thing is, they listened to me better that way. Maybe not putting on airs looked like confidence to them. I don't know, but it worked.
And by the way - No, the woods ain't that cut-throat. No where near. The woods is honest about everything as are the folks that live up in there. If a griz is coming at you, he is honest about it and coming straight at you. Only the cougar is a sneak about it.
Which is why I came back to the woods and away from business. Especially big business. Back-stabbing every chance they get. No offense meant.
